Were in Michigan visiting family.
We've had conversations ranging from "OH MY GOD you work in GUATEMALA?!" to "Why don't you just help our kids? There are hungry kids in America you know!"
We usually smile and say something like "yeah Guatemala has nice weather!" or "What do you do to help local kids? I'd love to hear about your work!"
Sarcasm aside...God does not call everyone to the same work.
Living radically for God is not about location, is an attitude, a relationship, a willingness to be obedient.
Bob and I were called to Guatemala to be house parents. We have the spiritual gifts required for this job in some ways, but also we are COMPLETELY and TOTALLY in over our heads… it's a good thing living for Jesus It is NOT about having it all together because we are not perfect parents. and praise God we don’t need to be. We just need to show up and do what God called us to do. Pretending to be perfect would only steal the glory intended for God.
God gives people different gifts for a reason, we are all a piece of the puzzle. We could not have made it here if it wasn’t for the man that started the non profit we work for, pastors, volunteers at church, all of the one time donors, the monthly supporters of Story, and all of the people that have supported us. Someone listening to God’s calling to send in that $30.00 a month made it possible for us to pay the light bill, put food on the table, or to take Jairon to the emergency room when we thought he broke his thumb.
For every person that relies on support to survive, there must be an army of supporters that believe in what they do. Thank you for walking with us.
